What are common reasons for truck accidents?

Large semi-trucks are among the most dangerous vehicles to other drivers on the road. The size and weight of these vehicles traveling at high speeds can create a deadly force. Because of the danger that these vehicles present to other drivers in West Virginia, truck drivers are required to abide by certain federal trucking regulations that are there to ensure the safety of others. When a truck driver fails to meet these standards, devastating, sometimes fatal accidents can occur.

There are many reasons why a truck accident may occur. Sometimes, it is the fault of the drivers of other vehicles. Another vehicle may drive in what are called "No Zones," areas where a truck driver has limited or no visibility. Vehicles may abruptly change lanes or maneuver in front of a truck that is turning. All of these may result in an accident.

Sometimes, though, it is the fault of the truck driver for an accident occurring. A truck driver may not have been adequately trained in certain techniques and safety concerns, and may maneuver in a way that could have been prevented with proper training. Unrealistic schedules may result in truck drivers driving faster than they should in order to meet deadlines, regardless of the safety risks involved. Drivers may suffer from truck driver fatigue, too, as the result of long hours on the road and not enough sleep.

When a truck accident is the result of a negligent truck driver, victims have rights. They may choose to pursue legal action against a truck driver or a trucking company in order to obtain compensation. Knowing who is at fault is not always clear. Attorneys are available to help victims make sense of these cases and pursue the appropriate action.
