Motorcycle and ATV crash in West Virginia, injuring one

Residents in West Virginia often witness various types of vehicles being driven on and off the roadways. While it is common to note automobiles, pickup truck and semi-trucks, smaller vehicles such as motorcycles and recreational vehicles are also driven throughout the state. Although these vehicles could be operated safely, these smaller vehicles do pose some major risks to their drivers and passengers. Even when a helmet or safety gear is worn, if a collision occurs, it is likely that the occupants will suffer serious injuries or could be killed.

Authorities in Ripley recently responded to a motorcycle accident that involved an ATV. According to preliminary reports, the collision between the two vehicles occurred around 5 p.m. on Brush Run Road. The 15-year-old motorcyclist suffered injuries when his bike collided with an ATV.

Emergency crews transported the young motorcyclist to the hospital via helicopter. His current condition was not available at the time of this post. Authorities are still investigating the crash and no citations or charges have been made at this time. No injuries were reported to the driver of the ATV.

At this time, the cause of the crash is unclear, but following an investigation, authorities should be able to determine the cause of the wreck and assign fault. If the ATV driver is found to be at fault, and thus caused injuries to an accident victim, he or she could be found liable in civil court for the victim's resulting damages. To acquire damages, the injured party must file a personal injury claim. A monetary reward could then result and the compensation recovered could be used to offset the costs associated with the crash, such as medical bills, lost wages and pain and suffering.

While any driver should use careful and drive safely, those traveling around motorcycles and other small vehicles should be extra cautious. If negligent or inattentive, these small vehicles could go unnoticed by such a motorist. If a driver fails to notice these individuals, he or she could collide with them during a turn, lane change or while traveling down the roadway, causing serious, perhaps even irreparable, damage.
