West Virginia officer injured in a hit-and-run crash

The importance of remaining attentive while behind the wheel can never be overstressed. Drivers in West Virginia will encounter an accident site from time to time, and in many cases these automobile collisions are caused by a negligent driver. When a driver fails to pay proper attention, is speeding or fails to follow traffic signs and signals, they could strike another vehicle or even a pedestrian or cyclist in the area. This could lead to serious injuries and the driver at fault could face major criminal and civil consequences.

Following a hit-and-run accident involving a West Virginia State Police officer, authorities were dispatched to the scene of the accident. According to preliminary reports, the accident happened on Interstate 77 just after 5:00 a.m. The officer stopped his cruiser in order to remove debris from the roadway. During this action, a driver stuck the officer and failed to stop after the collision.

The officer was able to crawl to his vehicle in order to call for medical assistance. He was treated for the injuries he suffered and was later released from the hospital. At this time, authorities have not located the driver that struck the officer. Once the driver is found, there could be traffic citations, criminal penalties and civil liabilities involved.

In addition to the pain and suffering a pedestrian endures from the impact of the vehicle that struck them, the pedestrian could face numerous expenses associated with the rehabilitation and recovery from the injuries they suffered. Filing a personal injury claim could provide them with compensation to cover these costs.

The negligence of a driver could prove to be very dangerous for others on the roadway. When an individual is affected by a negligent or distracted driver, not only does the injured party suffer, but in most cases so does their loved ones. Family members often provide aid and care to people who are injured so that they can recover from the injuries caused by the negligent driver. In order to properly heal and move on from the crash, it might be helpful to consider a civil suit. A cause of action could help a victim and their family members alleviate the financial burdens associated with the accident.
