Distracted driver causes multi-vehicle crash

One person's negligence could cause multiple victims to suffer. This is especially true when the negligent act occurs when an individual is behind the wheel. This does not only affect other drivers on the roadway, but could also harm bikers and even pedestrians in the area of the crash. Furthermore, an accident caused by a negligent driver could result in serious injuries and severe damages.

Following a multi-vehicle collision, authorities in West Virginia reported that four victims suffered injuries in the crash. According to reports, the car accident occurred just before noon on Route 10 in Logan County, West Virginia. Authorities believe that a distracted driver crossed the centerline and collided with a vehicle that was hauling a Jeep. This caused the trailer to break free from the vehicle and spin out of control on the roadway.

This initial collision resulted in a parked car getting struck, which then hit a pedestrian. When emergency crews arrived at the scene, the pedestrian was found in serious condition. The pedestrian was flown to the hospital for medical treatment. Three others suffered injuries and were transported to the hospital as well.

An investigation is still ongoing and no charges have been filed at this time. In general, once an investigation is complete, investigators may be able to establish the cause of the accident. The driver at fault could be liable for the injuries and damages they caused. Those injured could file a personal injury claims in order to seek compensation. Any monetary award received could provide those injured with a way to cover medical expenses and other damages caused by the crash.

Those involved in a crash should be aware of their options and what steps they could take. Further, an accident investigation could help establish whether a cause of action is right for them. This could help them with their recovery, both physical and financial.
