West Virginia authorities investigate fatal head-on collision

Although the roadways are considered a very useful and safe route for many vehicles to take, they can also set the stage for some serious crashes. If a driver is not properly paying attention, distracted or under the influence, they could cause a serious or even fatal crash. This is why it is important that all drivers pay attention and uphold the standard of care of a safe driver. Watching speeds, following road signs and signals, using blinkers and mirrors, wearing a seatbelt and not texting and driving are all steps a driver should take to guard against an accident.

Authorities in Jackson County were recently dispatched to an accident site in Fairplain. Authorities reported that two vehicles, a SUV and a passenger car, were in a head-on collision during the evening hours on Route 21.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene, and they reported that a total of ten people were in the two vehicles. In order to free some of the victims, crewmembers had to cut some of them out of the wreckage. It was reported that one person was killed in the crash while several other suffered injuries.

The details of the head-on collision were not reported at this time. It is not clear which vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic. Once investigation is completed, authorities should be able to establish cause and fault. If a driver was negligent and caused the crash, they could face civil penalties. Loved ones of the deceased could file a wrongful death suit, while the injured parties could file a personal injury claim against the liable driver. This could provide them with compensation to cover associated costs, such as medical bills, funeral costs and damages.

A serious accident often ends in tragedy on the roadway. When an accident is complex and involves numerous victims, it might take time to understand the cause. Those affected should take this waiting period to understand what options are available to them once investigation is complete. This could avoid additional delay if they decide to file a suit for compensation.
