Multi-vehicle collision injures 6 on West Virginia roadway

Distracted driving has been a growing concern on the roadways. When a driver is not appropriately paying attention to the road, they could easily cause an accident. Distractions such as texting while driving, talking on the phone, or looking away to talk to another passenger could lead to speeding, traveling too closely to the vehicle ahead, going through a stop sign or failing to yield. Any of these actions could lead to a serious car accident that could involve several vehicles and numerous victims.

Following a three-vehicle collision in St. Marys, two people suffered injuries. Authorities were dispatched to the multi-vehicle collision that happened around 2:55 p.m. on West Virginia 2 northbound. According to reports, the accident occurred when a vehicle slowed down to accommodate a vehicle ahead of them. It is suspected that the vehicle behind them did not notice the vehicle slowed down or was traveling too fast because the car stuck the vehicle ahead of them. The impact form the collision sent the vehicle forward and struck the vehicle ahead of them.

Emergency crews arrived to the scene and assessed those involved in the crash. Each vehicle had one passenger and all six people suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash. All vehicles were described as having major damage.

The accident is still under investigation and no citations have been issued at this time. Once investigation is complete, officers will be able to establish the cause of the accident and determine who is liable. When a driver causes a crash, they often endure civil penalties. Those injured could file a personal injury suit, which could result in compensation for their medical bills and damages.

Following a multi-vehicle collision, it is important to take note of details. This could help establish cause, as well as help the victims prepare for a cause of action against the negligent parties.
