Fatal truck accident one of over 30 in Monongalia County

No matter what the type of vehicle a driver is traveling in, it is always important the drivers, not only follow the rules of the road, but also alter their driving for any road conditions. The winter weather will often influence travel and traffic, which can be frustrating for some. Driver who do not reduce their speeds when there are snow and ice covered roads could easily lose control of their vehicle. This could ultimately lead to a serious, ever fatal, collision.

A fatal truck accident recently occurred in Morgantown, and authorities believe that the snowy and icy conditions on the road played a role in the crash. According to preliminary reports, the fatal crash took place on Interstate 79 near Goshen Road at around 8:30 a.m.

The accident took place in the southbound lanes on the Interstate and involved a tractor-trailer and an automobile. It is not clear how the two vehicles collided or which vehicle might have caused the crash, but, when emergency crews arrived at the scene, they pronounced the female driving the vehicle dead at the scene.

This fatal crash was one of over 30 accidents that were reported in the county that morning. Weather conditions were most likely a major factor in them. The tractor-trailer crash is still under investigation. Once the cause is determined, authorities can assign liability. When a driver is negligent, they could be liable for any resulting injuries, deaths and damages. The loved ones of the deceased could file a wrongful death claim. This could result in compensation to cover any expenses and damages associated with the accident.

A serious or fatal accident could easily be caused by bad road conditions. In addition, a negligent driver who is not driving safely in winter weather could cause a crash and affect other on the road. Those affected by a negligent driver should understand what options they have and if filing for compensation is best for them. Understanding their options early on can put their situation in perspective while also preserving their rights.
