Woman injured in hit-and-run crash on Halloween

Drivers should always be aware of their surroundings. In addition to taking notice of the vehicles traveling near them, drivers should also be aware of cyclists and pedestrians. When a driver is negligent and fails to notice, yield or stop for a pedestrian or bicyclist, they could collide and result in serious injuries or even fatalities. Because of the size and speed of the motor vehicle, pedestrian and bicyclists are not only unable to stand up to the impact of the vehicle, but they also have very little chance to evade the impending crash.

Authorities in Marion County recently obtained an arrest warrant for the driver involved in a hit-and-run accident. According to the Fairmont Police Department, the automobile collision happened on Halloween night and resulted in a woman being seriously injured. It was reported that the crash took place just before 10 p.m. on the 500 block of East Park Avenue.

The driver of a truck or SUV struck a 21-year-old female. It was reported that the driver did not stop or call in the accident to authorities. The woman was transported to the hospital for treatment and was reported to be in stable condition.

The investigation is still ongoing and the driver of the vehicle involved could face criminal charges for failing to notify police of an accident and leaving the scene of an accident involving injuries. In addition to enduring criminal penalties, however, the driver could also face civil liabilities. The injured pedestrian could file a personal injury claim. This could result in compensation that could be used to cover expenses associated with the crash, such as medical bills and damages.
