Two-car accident in West Virginia kills one and injures two

Every time a driver gets behind the wheel they are giving themselves a duty. That duty is to drive safely, keep all occupants in the vehicle away from harm and keep other drivers traveling on the road safe as well. This is often accomplished by wearing seatbelts, watching speeds, not using a cell phone while driving and remaining attentive. When a driver is negligent, they are more likely to cause or be involved in an accident. When a driver isn't attentive, speeds or fails to stop at a sign or signal, an automobile accident could ensue.

West Virginia police officers recently investigated a two-vehicle crash that resulted in the death of one and the injury of two. The accident occurred around 10:41 p.m. on state Route 29 located near Hanging Rock. Preliminary reports indicate that the driver of a Ford Explorer collided with a Subaru Impreza.

When emergency crews arrived at the scene of the collision, they pronounced the 19-year-old passenger of the Subaru dead at the scene. The driver and second passenger in the Subaru were also injured and were transported to the hospital for treatment. No injuries were reported to the driver of the Ford Explorer.

Police are still investigating the accident, and if the cause of the accident is determined and the driver of the Ford is liable, they could be cited. In addition, the liable party could have civil claims including a wrongful death suit and personal injury suit. Both civil claims could result in the affected parties and their loved ones receiving compensation for any financial burdens that resulted from the accident. Expenses usually include medical bills, funeral costs, lost wages, damages and pain and suffering.

A negligent driver does not only put themselves at risk, but other drivers and passengers as well. Those affected by a negligent driver should understand their options. This might mean seeking advice from a qualified professional about their rights and options to gain compensation.
