Dump truck operator found dead following work accident

It is common to see drivers on the road commuting to their jobs, but often people don't realize that many vehicles on the road are vehicles driven for job-related purposes. When a collision or incident occurs with a work vehicle while the employee is on the job, the injured worker or the family of a worker who is killed in an accident might be entitled to the benefits of workers' compensation. This would cover any financial burdens that resulted because of the incident. Although safety measures are devised and implemented in the workplace, on-the-job accidents, injuries and deaths cannot always be prevented.

The owner and operator of a dump truck recently was found dead in a workplace accident near Lewisburg. Greenbrier County Sheriff's deputies responded to the accident and found the operator of the dump truck pinned between the bed and the frame of the dump truck. After a preliminary investigation into the incident, authorities were not able to determine how he ended up beneath the bed of the truck or what caused the bed of the dump truck to lower onto him.

The investigation is ongoing and the West Virginia Public Service Commission is involved because the accident involved a commercial vehicle. The family of the deceased worker could file for workers' compensation benefits in order to cover the costs of this tragic accident. The compensation could be used for funeral costs, damages, lost wages and pain and suffering.

Some workplace accidents cannot always be predicted or prevented. Although certain safety measures are implemented in the workplace, these safeguards cannot cover all possible incidents that could occur in the work environment. The reduction of accidents that result in injury or death, however, may be achieved though constant training and retraining of the workers.
