New device could help detect head injuries

West Virginia residents may be interested to hear about a device called EyeBOXCNS. It has been shown to quickly and accurately detect abnormalities in the brain caused by concussions or other head injuries by measuring elevated levels of intracranial pressure. This is done in a non-invasive manner as opposed to the traditional method of drilling a hole in the skull.

In addition to being an invasive procedure, traditional testing methods can also be costly. Furthermore, patients may not be receiving the best treatment because there has been no way to accurately diagnose the extent of the injury. However, using the device, it may be possible to detect changes in the eyes, which are most sensitive to changes in pressure inside the skull.

Using such a device may give doctors and other medical professionals a way to detect changes before symptoms present themselves. This may provide greater opportunities to treat those who may have a concussion or other types of head injuries. If a person suffers a second blow to the head while experiencing elevated intracranial pressure, it may be fatal. This is referred to as second impact syndrome. Annually, more than 7 million Americans experience a traumatic brain injury, and concussions are the most common type of head injury.

As even a mild TBI may lead to serious consequences for an individual, it may be a good idea to hold whoever caused the injury responsible. If it can be established that negligence led to a concussion or other type of head injury, an attorney could be of assistance in seeking compensation on behalf of the victim for medical expenses and other losses.
