Spring weather means an increase of motorcycles on the road

Spring is nearly upon us. We set the clocks forward next week, baseball spring training has begun, and the weather is starting to warm up. With the increase of warm weather comes the inevitable increase of motorcycles on the road.

Whether you are a part of a bike club, ride with a few friends or just like to get away from life for a few hours with solo rides through the mountains and woods, motorcycle riding is a very popular hobby for thousands of Americans, including many from the Raleigh County, Virginia, area. While a few diehards will ride year round, when spring comes and the weather warms, many more will hit the roads.

While a car offers multiple protections to people while travelling such as seatbelts, airbags, and the car itself acting as a shell protecting against any impacts, motorcyclists find themselves especially vulnerable when it comes to motorcycle accidents. This is true not only for initial impacts, but immediately following an accident as well, as motorcycle riders are often thrown off their bikes and may find themselves in the middle of the road or off the road where additional dangers lie.

Whether you are in a car or on your bike, it is important to be mindful of the increase of motorcyclists on the roads. Motorcyclists are more difficult to see, especially for drivers who are not used to looking for them. You may be the safest rider on the roads, but you can never vouch for the driver of the car or truck sharing the roads with you, and that may be the difference between arriving to your destination safely, or suffering a serious or catastrophic injury.
