The importance of a legal remedy following a drunk driving injury

The carnage resulting from a car crash where drunk driving is a catalyst is swift and often devastating.

The personal injuries suffered by individuals and families who are struck by an inebriated motorist can be flatly catastrophic. Tragically, too, loss of human life -- for drivers and passengers in other vehicles, motorcyclists, bicyclists and pedestrians -- is common when the horrific negligence evidenced by drunk driving is on display.

There are laws against drunk driving, of course, but it is an understatement to note that they do not always work.

In fact, they can seem woefully deficient, as noted by one publication in a recent article stressing the magnitude of West Virginia's drunk driving problem.

To be fair, the advocacy group Mothers Against Drunk Drivers cites West Virginia in a salutary way for what the organization says are the state's strict DUI laws, which are reportedly among the most stringent in the country.

Notwithstanding that, though, there are critics who lament the ability of convicted offenders to put off consequences. The process to revoke a license in West Virginia "is slow, almost glacial," notes the above-cited article.

And while it plays out, some offenders get back behind the wheel while drunk, remaining dangerous agents on state roadways. And some, of course, continue to drive regardless of their license status.

We note on a relevant page of our website at the Raleigh County law firm of Stephen P. New that our legal team brings diligent and knowledgeable advocacy to bear on behalf of individuals and families whose lives are "changed forever" by the negligent conduct of a drunk driver.

A meaningful money recovery in a drunk driving case can be of tremendous help to injury victims and their families by helping to pay for medical costs, compensate for down time at work and lost income, defray outlays linked with rehabilitation and therapy, and to promote closure by acknowledging pain and suffering.

Our representation of injury victims is compassionate yet aggressive, being focused always on outcomes that fully promote our clients' best interests.
