One dead after head-on crash with 18-wheeler

West Virginia residents can barely travel down any major road without encountering a larger commercial truck. The important role these massive vehicles play in our society is evident; however, this does not negate the fact that semi-trucks and tractor-trailer trucks present countless risks to motorists. Their large size alone makes them prone to huge accident sites. Moreover, a truck accident is a collision that is likely to generate destruction, injuries and even deaths.

According to authorities in Mercer County, a fatal truck crash recently occurred. Preliminary reports suggest that the crash occurred shortly before 9:00 a.m. on Airport Road. Police confirmed that the crash was a head-on collision involving two vehicles -- a logging truck and a passenger car.

The head-on collision took place at the intersection of Airport Road and Mercer Mall Road. Authorities reported that the female victim driving the car died at the scene of the crash. The driver of the 18-wheeler did not suffer any injuries in the crash.

No charges have been filed at thing time and the crash is still under investigation. A reconstruction team is working to understand the cause of the accident, and they are using a drone to get a better view of the site. Additionally, a data-recording device was recovered from the car and will provide vital information such as the vehicle's steering, speed and braking in the final moments before the crash.

Following an investigation, the cause and liability of the crash will likely be determined. If a negligent driver was the cause of a truck accident, it is likely that those harmed in the crash could recover compensation for their losses. In a fatal crash, loved ones could seek damages through a wrongful death suit.
