One killed and four injured in rear-end collision

There are a lot of responsibilities for drivers when they are behind the wheel of a vehicle. It should be common sense to follow the rules of the road, but some drivers fail to uphold the standard duty of care while they are driving. Whether it is speeding, following too closely, failing to yield or texting while driving, these negligent acts could result in a serious automobile accident that could cause victims to be seriously injured or even lose their life.

The West Virginia State Police are still investigating a recent two-vehicle crash that sent four victims to the hospital. According to reports, the accident occurred on Route 33 in Randolph County. Officers believe that a Mazda heading west on the highway rear-ended a Cadillac at the Crystal Springs exit. The impact of the collision resulted in the Cadillac igniting on fire.

Luckily, everyone was able to exit the vehicle before it was engulfed in flames. It was reported that the injuries sustained in the car accident were related to the impact of the crash and not from the resulting fire. Emergency crews transported four people to the hospital for medical treatment. It was later reported that one person did not survive the injuries she sustained in the accident.

Authorities are still investigating the incident and officers stated that charges might be pending at this time. Once completed, investigators will be able to determine cause, fault and liabilities. In addition to facing possible traffic and criminal penalties, the driver at fault could endure civil liabilities.

When a victim is injured or killed in a crash, civil actions could be filed against the negligent party. A personal injury suit could provide the injured with compensation to cover medical expenses and other related damages. The loved ones of the deceased could receive compensation through a wrongful death claim. This could help them with the costs of medical bills, funeral costs and other losses.

No matter how simple the negligent act is a driver could easily cause a serious accident. This not only results in damages but could also take the lives of the victims involved. Those impacted by the crash should be aware of their options so they can understand how to move past the incident while also becoming knowledgeable about their legal remedies.
