Motorcyclist struck and killed by car on West Virginia highway

A small or slight distraction that causes a driver to be inattentive even for a few seconds could lead to tragedy. A negligent or distracted driver could cause a serious or fatal accident. This is especially true if a car, truck or van collides with a motorcycle. These small vehicles are not equipped with the same safety features as other motor vehicles and even if a helmet is worn, it can only guard the motorcyclist to a certain extent.

The Mason County Sheriff's Department recently released the name of the victim that died in a recent motorcycle crash. According to reports, the fatal motorcycle accident took place on U.S. 35 in Southside when an automobile struck a 60-year-old male motorcyclist. Reports indicate that the motorcyclist was traveling north when the vehicle, which was traveling south on the same road, collided with him

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead following the tragic collision. The 24-year-old driver of the automobile and a passenger both suffered injuries and were transported to the hospital for medical treatment. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending at this time.

A negligent driver could face both criminal and civil penalties following a fatal crash. In civil court, the loved ones of a deceased individual could receive compensation through a wrongful death suit. Expenses such as funeral costs, lost wages, and loss of companionship could create hardship for the family members of the deceased. A monetary award could help alleviate these financial burdens.

A motorcycle collision can be a very serious and tragic event. In most cases, the motorcyclist suffers greatly or does not survive the crash. Loved ones are often left with the burden to cover the bills with which the accident left them. In these matters, it is important for victims and their families to understand their situation and possible options, especially if they are considering a civil action. A local West Virginia attorney may be able to help with this process.
