More than 30 crashes across West Virginia due to slick roads

West Virginia residents are used to the change of seasons. Although most residents have travelled in inclement weather, winter weather can be very dangerous for drivers. Snow or ice covered roads could be hazardous to drive on, and when a driver is not taking adequate precautions they could lose control of their vehicle. This frequently occurs when a vehicle is traveling much too fast for the conditions. Not only is the life of the driver put at risk, but the lives of other drivers as well.

Several serious multi-vehicle collisions recently occurred across the West Virginia. The counties of Logan, Boone and Mingo were affected when over 30 different accidents took place due to the slick conditions on the roadways. The icy conditions primarily affected US 119 and Route 85.

Authorities reported that emergency crews had to respond to at least 15 wrecks in Mingo County and one of the accidents was fatal. In Boone County, a person was seriously injured after an automobile and semi-truck collided. The injured party was transported to the hospital for treatment.

When hazardous or dangerous road conditions exist, it is important that drivers adjust their driving on the roads or avoid driving until the conditions better. Even if a driver is not speeding, if they fail to drive safely in the winter weather conditions they could be found negligent.

The family members of a person killed in a fatal accident caused by negligent driver could file a wrongful death lawsuit, while a personal injury claim could be filed by a person injured in an accident. Either type of lawsuit could result in compensation being awarded, which could go toward expenses associated with the crash, such as medical bills, funeral costs and damages.

The winter weather not only causes residents to bundle up, but also to drive cautiously. If a driver fails to travel safely on the road, they could cause an accident resulting in serious injuries and even death. Those affected should understand they might have a cause of action.
