Truck accident with train raises safety concerns

Accidents can happen for various reasons and are often very unexpected. Some accidents occur because a driver was negligent. This can happen when a driver speeds, is distracted or fails to properly maintain their vehicle. When a negligent driver causes an accident those affects could be seriously injured or even killed.

Residents and visitors in Charleston were recently shocked by a collision that involved a logging truck and a sightseeing train. According to preliminary reports, the two crashed resulting in the death of the truck driver and seriously injuring twenty-three passengers aboard the train.

It is not clear at this time how the two crashed, but a spokesman at the state agency said that the logging truck was inspected about two days prior to the accident. Following the wreck, the truck's cab was severely damaged, which could make it difficult to carryout accident reconstruction. This could also make it challenging to determine is faulty brakes were a factor in the incident.

Following investigation of the truck accident, officials and authorities will be able to determine the cause and if negligence played a role in the accident. Once this is determined, liability and fault can be determined. Those injured could file a personal injury claim in order to gain compensation to cover the costs of medical bills, damages and pain and suffering.

A truck accident can result in severe damage and serious injuries. Those affected by a major wreck involving a truck should understand their rights. This can help them decide what options they have and if seeking compensation is the right route for them.
