Alcohol a possible factor in Berkeley County car accident

West Virginia drivers understand that there are many things they can do to increase their safety on the roadway. These include watching their speed, wearing their seatbelts, signaling lane changes and turns, not using their phones while driving and not following other vehicles too closely. But even if a driver carefully follows all the rules of the road and takes every reasonable precaution, they may still be unable to evade a negligent driver.

Authorities in Berkeley County recently responded to a car accident that involved two vehicles. The automobile collision occurred around 11 p.m. near the intersection of Route 51 and Specks Run Road. Emergency crews transported at least one person from the scene to the hospital. Details surrounding the incident such as the type of vehicles, the number of people involved and the cause of the crash have not been reported at this time, but authorities have stated that alcohol may have been a factor. The investigation was still ongoing at the time this post was written.

If an intoxicated driver caused the accident and the injuries suffered by the person who was taken to the hospital, they will likely face civil liabilities as well as criminal prosecution.

A person injured by a negligent driver has a cause of action for their injuries and resulting damages. They can bring a personal injury claim and recover compensation for their injuries. The award will typically include compensation for medical bills, lost wages, damages and pain and suffering.

An intoxicated or negligent driver presents a very hazardous situation on the roadways. A driver or passenger injured by a negligent driver should understand their rights and options when it comes to filing a claim and recovering compensation.
