New research assists in understanding brain injuries

No matter the type of wound, a serious injury can be traumatic, emotional and life-altering. When a person suffers a brain injury, not only may immediate medical care be needed but one could also require a lengthy rehabilitation and long-term care. Whether it is in an automobile accident, on-the-job or while playing a sport, any person who suffers a head injury should seek medical attention because not all brain traumas are seen right away; some can go undiagnosed for years.

One researcher from a university engineering department is working to uncover the mysteries of traumatic brain injuries suffered by various people such as military personnel, accident victims and athletes. Because brain injuries are caused by very different types of accidents, not all brain traumas are the same. This is why it is crucial to understand the type of injury so that the patient can receive the appropriate method of treatment.

The research team is working on a 3-D imaging device in order for the team to better understand the motion between the brain and the skull. This will not only help determine the severity of the injury but also help simulate the accident the victim was involved in. These advances in technology will not only help designate appropriate treatment paths but could also assist in the investigation of the accident the victim was involved in.

It is not only important to seek medical attention after suffering a head injury, but it is also crucial that the injured party receive the appropriate treatment for the brain trauma that they have suffered. The recovery process can be a lengthy causing much emotion and could require life-long expenses for treatment. When a person suffers a brain injury in an accident, they might be able to file a personal injury claim. The injured party could endure financial burdens incurred from the accident. Compensation awarded from the suit could help pay for medical expenses and rehabilitation.
