West Virginia miner killed in mining accident

Areas like West Virginia are known for the mining industry. Residents within the state are aware of the dangers that are associated with the occupation of a miner and having the benefit of workers' compensation is crucial because the likelihood of a workplace accident occurring for a miner is much higher than other careers.

The mining industry implements numerous amounts of safety guidelines and provides safety equipment for all the miners. After each incident, a proper investigation is conducted. The importance of having an investigation cannot be stressed enough, because during those investigations problems and hazards can be uncovered and accidents, injuries and death could be avoided in the future.

A fatality recently occurred at a mine in West Virginia. A miner from Kermit was working at a mine in Boone County when the accident happened. The 63-year-old man had been working in mine for about 40 years and was currently working as a roof bolt operator. The man was preparing to install a rib bolt when a piece of the mine fell from the ceiling. The injuries suffered by the miner from the incident were critical and the man did not survive. It was reported that this incident marks the fifth miner from West Virginia to die this year.

The workplace accident is being investigated and the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration is involved in the process. The family of a miner killed in an accident like this could have the expenses incurred by the accident covered by workers' compensation. The loved ones of the deceased could file the claim on behalf of the killed miner. Medical bills, funeral costs, lost wages and damages could be covered by the workers' compensation claim.

Jobs like mining require training and safety equipment because the occupation in innately very dangerous. It is important to keep miner trained and have the mine routinely inspected in order to avoid accidents, injuries and fatalities.
