Miner critically injured after tool stuck him in head

Some industries in the work force are known to be more risky and pose a greater risk to the health of the employees. The mining industry does not only place the employee in an environment that could be hazardous to their health, but serious injuries could occur if the right precautions are not taken. Workers' compensation is a benefit that assists with expenses incurred due to an accident in the workplace.

Even when the employees are properly trained and equipped with safety materials, the risk of an accident occurring in a mine is much higher than other forms of employment. On-the-job injuries suffered by miners can be very critical and could temporarily keep them out of work while they recover. The benefits of workers' compensation could help them recover properly and quickly, helping them return to work sooner.

A West Virginia miner was critically injured after being stuck in the head with a mining tool. The incident occurred when the 51-year-old employee was using a slate bar, a long-handed tool used to pry loose material from the roof and walls of the mine. While using this tool, it somehow popped loose causing it to strike him in the head. Emergency crews responded to the work accident and transported the injured worker to the hospital. The miner was reported to be in critical condition and on life support.

Investigation is ongoing for this work incident, and they will determine how the miner was using the tool in order to better explain why it popped loose. An employee injured on-the-job like this could file for workers' compensation. In an injury like this, the worker would be out of work temporarily while they seek medical treatment. This could cause significant financial burdens, especially if the recovery process is lengthy. Medical bills, rehabilitation, lost wages and pain and suffering could be covered by workers' compensation benefits.

Although risky jobs usually include intense training and safety equipment, these safety features cannot always prevent incidents from occurring. Workers' compensation is an essential benefit for employees because it not only allows them to seek medical attention but it could also help cover the expenses for a lengthy recovery.
