Students and residents across the nation often rely on public transportation to get around. Buses can carry a large number of occupants, so when a bus accident does occur, it can result in several injured passengers. School buses can pose several distractions because of the amount of students on the bus and an accident involving a bus can cause a large amount of damage. The enormous size of the vehicle does not only create damage to other vehicles but to those passengers inside the bus.
A high school bus in West Virginia was recently in an accident with another vehicle. The vehicle struck the bus, which caused several of the student passengers to sustain bumps and bruises from the crash. Six students that were injured were taken to Jefferson Memorial Hospital to be examined as a precaution. The driver of the bus was not harmed but the status of the other driver was not released. Fault has not been determined and the investigation is ongoing. Statements indicate that water on the road was a contributing factor and that the vehicle that struck the bus crossed the centerline of the road.
Although the circumstances surrounding the accident are still not known, there were six passengers that sought medical attention. Those that sustained injuries could file a personal injury claim in order to cover the costs of medical bills, damage, rehabilitation, lost wages and pain and suffering.
It is important for drivers to be aware of any hazards on the road. It is especially crucial for drivers to be attentive and watch their speeds. There are several potential distractions for drivers so not texting while driving, slowing down for hazards or weather conditions and using turn signals and mirrors should always be practiced to ensure the safety of all drivers and passengers on the road.
