Multiple car wreck in West Virginia under investigation

It is tragic when people are injured or killed in an incident, but not knowing the specific cause of the disastrous event brings the tragedy to a heightened level. In any region, a car accident may not be an uncommon event, but recently, a multiple car accident in Beckley has local drivers concerned.

Following an automobile accident involving multiple vehicles in Beckley, five people with serious injuries were transported to a nearby hospital. The accident was caused by a domino effect, which began when an elderly driver approached a stoplight. Instead of halting his vehicle to stop at the traffic light, the driver rear-ended the automobile in front of him. This caused three other vehicles stopped at the light to become involved in the collision.

The elderly driver and two passengers in the first vehicle to be rear-ended were transported to the hospital soon after the accident. Later, two other motorists were taken to the hospital for injuries that required medical attention. The cause of the accident is still unknown, but following their initial investigation, the police believe that a pre-existing medical condition of the elderly driver may have contributed to the accident. At this point, fault has not been determined and no charges have been filed against any of the drivers.

If negligence is a factor in the accident, the motorists and passengers injured by the impact of the collision could commence a personal injury lawsuit. The compensation awarded in such a suit would go towards medical bills, property damage, lost wages, rehabilitation expenses and pain and suffering. Some accidents are not preventable, but it is important to note that safety habits like being attentive and staying off the phone while driving can decrease the likelihood of a car crash. The prevention of negligent driving is a concern, but drivers must also make sure that they are healthy enough to safely operate a vehicle, not only for their own well-being, but for the safety of other drivers and pedestrians on the road.
